Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin is set to release a new album, Millport, his fourth full-length solo studio LP and first since 2006’s Cold As The Clay. The album is out March 10th via ANTI- Records.
Graffin record Millport with assistance from Social Distortion members Jonny ‘Two Bags’ Wickersham, Brent Harding and David Hidalgo Jr. Bad Religion bandmate (and Epitaph Records founder) Brett Gurewitz produced the album.
As with previous solo outings, Millport shirks the established punk sound of Bad Religion for a more melodic, folk verging on country rock sound. Previously released singles set to feature on Millport, “Making Time” and “Lincoln’s Funeral Train,” exemplify this shift in sound.
Brett Gurewitz said Graffin natural-sounding shift toward country rock is less surprising than many expect.
“It’s the two songwriters from Bad Religion and the rhythm section of Social Distortion, two influential LA punk bands, getting together to do an authentic country rock album, a genre most would think is the absolute antithesis of punk rock,” Gurewitz said via press release. “But I think it sounds great. Both are iconic Southern California genres. It’s like the Laurel Canyon sound played by the kids who were smashing up the clubs a few years later.”
Graffin will play SXSW in Austin in March. At the moment, it’s his only confirmed tour date.
