U2 Announces Summer 2017 Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary Stadium Tour

In honor of the release of their fifth studio album in 1987 The Joshua TreeU2 is embarking on a summer tour to celebrate the albums 30th anniversary. The tour kicks off on May 12th in Vancouver, BC making its away across the U.S with supporting acts Mumford & Sons, One Republic, and The Lumineers, eventually finishing of its North American leg of the tour in Cleveland, OH (with a stop at Bonnaroo.) The remainder of the tour will commence in Europe on July 8th in London, UK with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

With 25 million copies sold worldwide this album was U2’s first number one album in the U.S, and is marked as one of the best-selling albums of all time. U2 is set to preform the album in its entirety featuring hit singles “With Or Without You,” “I still Haven’t Found what Im Looking For” and “Where the Streets Have No Name.” In a interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist The Edge explained that they’re still in the process of figuring out how they plan on preforming the album. “The show might not necessarily start with Track 1, Side 1 ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ because we feel like maybe we need to build up to that moment,” he says. “So we’re still in the middle of figuring out exactly how the running order will go.”

In a recent statement from Bono he shared his thoughts on the upcoming tour, “Recently I listened back to The Joshua Tree for the first time in nearly 30 years… it’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats… I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night.”
