Poison Idea Breaks Up

After 35 years of countless singles, seven studio records, and enough raw head banging material to last a lifetime, the punk rock band Poison Idea has officially announced their retirement. The band released the following statement saying:

This is an OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. We’ve told our friends, talked with promoters, announced it at the last show, but I guess we have to do this to make it “official”. POISON IDEA is pulling the plug on the life support system that keeps the band side alive. Ya can’t kill the spirit. But as of Jan. 1, 2017, POISON IDEA is no longer a band. We’re going to keep working with TKO/Cascade to rerelease the old catalog and we have stuff that was never let out of the can, that will probably be released. THANK YOU FOR THE 35(!) YEARS WORTH OF MEMORIES. STAY TRUE, STAY FREE. CHEERS.

While fans are no doubt in anguish about the decision, they’ve had an undeniably epic run. Notable rock bands such as Nirvana and Machinehead were even noted to be influenced by their distinct sound and attitude. Poison Idea first impacted the music scene in 1986 with their debut studio album release Kings of Punk, with frontman Jerry A pulling lyrical and musical influence from Los Angeles punk legends Germs. Over the years the band released several successful albums before going on an extended hiatus after their 1993 album We Must Burn. They reunited in 1999 when Jerry A. brought in new musicians to create a killer new group.

Their most recent release was in 2015 with their album Confuse and Conquer. Unfortunately, that same year the band announced they’d be going on an indefinite hiatus in order to address health issues. Now the band has confirmed fans worst nightmares, officially calling it quits on producing new music. At least we can look forward to some unreleased gems that’ll ease the grieving process just a little.
