WATCH: Dirty Projectors Release New Video for “Little Bubble”

It’s no secret that social media and technology have our generation all kinds of messed up. Despite new apps and social media outlets promising more “connectivity,” we can’t seem to shake that feeling of isolation and insularity, and that appears to be what Dirty Projectors’ newest video, “Little Bubble,” is addressing.

The tranquil, digital ballad starts with frontman Dave Longstreth singing softly to himself, alone in the dark, illuminated only by the glow of a tablet. As the video proceeds, the singer continually finds himself isolated in different environments. Sitting alone on a rocky hill, surrounded by plants in a greenhouse, a small island of grass in a sea of sand, alone in a wintery landscape-these are just a few of the places Longstreth finds himself isolated, in a “little bubble.” The only other sign of life is that of a dead bird…through the screen of an IPad.

“We had our own little bubble/For a while,” croons Longstreth, reminiscing on the temporality that comes from filtering our lives through social media. The video can resonate simply as a classic breakup song, or the plight of nearly every millennial who feels some sort of isolation despite getting a few new matches on their Tinder account.

The song makes this the second offering from Dirty Projectors’ unannounced project, but this should be more than enough to hold fans over in the meantime.
