Allison Crutchfield has announced that her debut solo album, Tourist in This Town, will be dropping on January 27 via Merge Records. And while we are familiar with her musical ability from her other associate bands (P.S. Eliot, Swearin’) this record puts her prowess and talents at center stage. The entire album isn’t out until the end of the month, but she’s released the first single, “Dean’s Room”, an upbeat yet somber peak into what might be in store.
Allison and her twin sister Katie found a love for music at a young age growing up in Birmingham, Alabama. The pair continued performing and forming one band after the next over the years and playing sets anywhere they could. Sighting the Velvet Underground and Fugazi as sources of inspiration, the pair was able move their home base to Philadelphia and build a fan base for their alternative-indie rock music. P.S. Eliot, the last group the sisters were in together, broke up in 2015. Now Allison’s ambition and new emphasis in the direction of feminism helped extend her music into indie rock, pop, and traditional emo.
Per Allison, “It’s a record about change—change of scenery, of partner, of band, of home, of friends, of outlook—and how that change can cause a temporary panic but ultimate triumph in most of us.”
Allison Crutchfield will be perferforming with The Fizz at Schuba’s on March 31st.
