Fans of the pioneer trap lords Flosstradamus might be getting a lump of coal in their stocking this Christmas. Josh Young, one-half of the iconic trap/EDM duo announced that he would be leaving Flosstradamus, indefinitely splitting the group.
The news came the other day via Instagram where Young announced that he would be leaving Curt Cameruci, the other half of the duo, to pursue his now solo project, Me2. While it was originally believed to be merely a side project of Young’s, he made it clear that this will receive his full attention going forward.
The move seemingly comes out of the blue, as the duo have seen a string of success over their careers with packed shows and the launch of their own label Hi Def Youth, not to mention being the forefathers of EDM’s hottest new movement, the trap genre.
The split came after much “soul-searching” according to Young, and is in no way a result of any ill-will towards his partner or management, but simply just time to move on.
While it means the end of the duo, it doesn’t mean the end of Flosstradamus according to Cameruci, who plans to continue under the Flosstradamus banner in Young’s absence.
“The reports of Flosstradamus’ death have been greatly exaggerated,” said Cameruci in a Facebook post. “A movement does not stop when one of its founding fathers goes abroad-it only gets bigger! Flosstradamus will continue and I am excited to carry the torch. Josh will always be a party of the #HDYNATION and we wish him the best on his future endeavors.”
So while the pain may be real now, you can rest easy knowing both artists aren’t going anywhere for now. Keep an hear out for Me2’s debut, presumably out in 2017.
