Nile Rodgers Reveals Chic Will Release a New Album Titled It’s About Time In 2017

Nile Rodgers will release a new Chic album, It’s About Time, in 2017. The album, originally slated for a 2015 release, marks Chic’s first full-length release since 1992’s Chic-ism.

Rodgers made the announcement via his website. Rodgers reflected on the 2016 passing of Prince, Glenn Frey, Paul Kantner, and his onetime collaborator David Bowie, and said he “couldn’t release an album  couldn’t release an album about the joy of life in A Year of So Many Deaths.” The album release date will converge with the the 40-year anniversary of the band’s formation as well as the 40-year anniversary of Studio 54’s opening.

“In 2017, we will pay homage to the club that put us on the international map by doing a series of concerts, afterparties, VIP Packages, films and singles,” his statement reads. “Then drop the full album along with a BIG SURPRISE!”

Chic have released eight full-length LP’s. They have not released new music since the deaths of founding bassist Bernard Edwards and founding drummer Tony Thompson in 1996 and 2003 respectively. The group have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 11 times, failing to be inducted into the institution each time. The Hall of Fame announced earlier this week they will induct Rodgers for Musical Excellence in 2017.
