Underground hip-hop artist P.O.S. is projecting rap lyrics to fans in his newest album releasing January 27th, 2017 titled Chill, Dummy. In late 2012, P.O.S. was forced into an emergency kidney surgery. Coinciding with his health issues, P.O.S. had to stop recording his music and touring instantaneously. Two years later P.O.S. received a kidney transplant. After the surgery he was quoted, “I feel like a new dude.”
Moving forward to 2017, P.O.S. plans on releasing a lyrical memoir reflection of the past few years of his life. On the Doomtree official website they explain, “touches on ‘being black, beefs loves, hurts, victories, pride and the future’ all while reflecting over the past two years since a kidney surgery sidelined him from making music.” Following along, P.O.S. includes other musicians to collaborate this well-anticipated album. Featuring; John Vernon, Kathleen Hanna, Astronautalis, Allan Kingdom, Open Mike Eagle and Busdriver. Busdriver however is partaking in P.O.S.’s latest artistic endeavors in various unconventional forms—offering a bit of commentary into the album. There will be a vinyl copy available on March 17th. The forthcoming album will include ten new tracks including two previously released singles “sleepdrone/superposition” (which features Kathleen Hanna and Astronautalis) and “Wearing A Bear.”
UPDATE (12/23): According to credits, “Faded” will include various elements that are pulled from the Justin Vernon-associated project GAYNGS’ song “Faded High.” That song was included on the band’s album Relayted. P.O.S. himself has contributed to that band’s output, including another song from Relayted, “No Sweat.”
Another Midwestern rapper, Chicago-born artist Open Mike Eagle makes an appearance on “Infinite Scroll.”
In a recent press release, Chill, Dummy has been described as the “Most bold, honest and daring work to date.” His latest single from this album, “Lanes” has been released via Consequence Of Sound. Corresponding to the press release, the single “Lanes” ends rapping “I been in my own lane so long, Ima go my own way way so long.” Check below for a list of his upcoming touring dates, ticketing links and new single.
