Beck, the Grammy award winning musician got the crowd pumped on Sunday during night two at Los Angeles’ alternative rock station’s annual Almost Acoustic Christmas event, where proceeds are donated local charities. He was a major headliner for night two and opened his glorious performance with notable 90’s throwbacks “Loser” (1993) and “Devil’s Haircut” (1996).
“‘Loser,’ [Weezer’s] The Blue Album, and [Green Day’s] Dookie all came out a coupe weeks apart,” Beck said with sentiments while onstage Sunday. “It’s some kind of cosmic convergence for us all to be together again.”
Beck then performed two emotional covers, showing tribute to some of history’s best musicians who lost their lives this year. The first was his rendition of David Bowie’s 1977 track “China Girl” followed by Prince’s self titled track “1999” he released in 1982. Beck paused his performance for a brief moment to reminisce on 2011, when Beck was last at the venue in order to watch a Prince concert.
Aftre the tributes, Beck fast fowarded to the present and played some of his most recent songs, “Dreams” (2015) and “Wow” (2016) before returning to the good ‘ol days for the closing song. In another flash to the past, Beck played his 1996 hit “Where It’s At”, a song he premiered at the 1995 Lollapalooza Festival. It’s safe to say fans enjoyed the song at Almost Acoustic Christmas as they did twenty years ago when festival goers heard the song for the first time. Watch out for any new music from the timeless and award winning artist in the upcoming year.
