The new rock super-group, Crystal Fairy, released a new song today entitled “Chiseler.” The band, which was first announced back in October of this year, consists of the legendary Melvins’ Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez from At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta, and Le Butcherettes’ Teri Gender Bender.
The ingredients mix well on this track, as fans of the Melvins will recognize the crunching guitar riffs and pounding drums, hallmarks of their solo work, while the vocals of both Teri Gender Bender and Rodriguez-Lopez flow in and out of each other seamlessly, providing a melodic counterpoint to the heavy rhythm section where Gender Bender can soar in when Osborne and Crover open up the instrumentals momentarily.
This chemistry was also apparent among Teri Gender Bender who said in a statement: “It was so much fun to write this song with Buzz, Omar and Dale. It literally just came out like a flying saucer while we were working the parts out for Chiseler. That same day we recorded everything, it was so impressive to see how well we all experiment with one another.” Though some super-groups feel forced, Teri said “I completely let my hand do the story telling.”
In addition to “Chiseler,” the band has also dropped the song “Drugs On The Bus,” which will appear alongside “Chiseler” on their self-titled debut album which is scheduled to drop on February 24 through Ipecac records.
