Nikki Lane @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 3/2

It almost doesn’t sound like a real story when Nikki Lane met Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys at a flea market in Nashville, who’d later go on to produce her second full-length album All or Nothin’ and would even collaborate on one of the album’s best and most passionate tracks, “You Can’t Talk to Me Like That.” But that’s exactly how it happened. And ever since then, Lane’s career has really taken off.

Her first album called Walk of Shame is an all-trying country record first released in 2011, flooded with emotion about heartache and love/lust and life and everything in between. She moved from South Carolina to LA and then on to New York where she decided to start writing new songs in the wake of a recent breakup and quitting a successful job. Her music is country, yes, but at the same time it really does have more of a folky-rock spin, especially heard in tracks like “Right Time” and “I Don’t Care.”

Her third album is due out in 2017 called Highway Queen (the same name as her already released single) where Lane continues to highlight the crossroads of life in her songwriting and goes on to say: “Love is the most unavoidable thing in the world. The person you pick could be half set-up to destroy your life with their own habits. I’ve certainly experienced that before and taken way too long to get out of that mistake.” Hear her play and sing all about it when this “queen of outlaw country” (as she’s known in the industry) comes to Brooklyn in March.
