elbow announced earlier today they will release new album, Little Fictions, on Feb. 3, 2017 via Concord Records. The album marks the group’s first release since 2014’s The Take Off and Landing of Everything.
elbow recorded Little Fictions in Scotland and Manchester, and features collaborations with the string players of The Hallé Orchestra, the Hallé Ancoats Community Choir, members of London Contemporary Voices and session drummer Alex Reeves. Band member Craig Potter produced the entire album, as he has done for the group’s past three albums.
elbow’s members separately wrote and composed the songs that would eventually form previous album The Take Off and Landing of Everything. Little Fictions marks a departure from this approach, as all four band members worked together throughout the recording process.
Longtime drummer Richard Jupp quit elbow prior to the Little Fictions recording sessions. The band used new percussive noises, sampling and loops to build tracks to compensate for his departure.
elbow released a single, “Magnificent (She Says)”, to accompany the album release date announcement. Little Fictions is currently available for preorder. A special edition boxset of the album containing a bespoke book, CD LP and digital download of the album is also available in limited quantities exclusively through elbow’s website.
