Hodgy, also known as Gerard Damien Long, recently released a new song called “Final Hour” featuring Busta Rhymes. This song will be a part Fireplace:TheNotTheOtherSide, which will be released on December 9th through Columbia Records.
Hodgy had began working after signing a deal under the Odd Future umbrella in 2013, but it was only this year where he got the chance to record almost all of the rhymes on Fireplace off the top of his head. Ever since the break up of Odd Future, Hodgy has been working on his major label debut. According to the press release, Hodgy had said “I had to do a lot of living and transform in order to feel and speak my truth, to say what I really felt on the album rather than just rap. I’m gifted.” The song can be heard below.
To help out with the production of this new album, Hodgy collaborates with artists such as Lil Wayne and Salomon Faye, and many producers such as BadBadNotGood, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Knxwledge, Nottz, and Jonti. In this single, along with the collaboration with Busta Rhymes, the song was produced by 88-Keys.
The song follows a repetitive percussive beat, while the artist starts rapidly speaking out the lyrics. With the artist’s tone continued throughout the song, it connects with the rapid verse delivery that Busta Rhymes is well known for.
