Hippo Campus @ Irving Plaza 3/31

Hippo Campus hasn’t even released a full-length album yet (which is due out early 2017). But with just their EPs alone, Bashful Creatures and South, and having already toured with bands like My Morning Jacket and Modest Mouse, this band from Minnesota seems to be doing more than well for themselves.

Their catchy pop-rock sound is reminiscent of Vampire Weekend—energetic, catchy, fun. But they are a young band, anyway (having graduated high school just a few years ago), which infuses their cool, fresh vibe and has also led them to a coveted spot at SXSW when the band first started out.

“Suicide Saturday” is one of the prime tracks that embody the band’s personality and sound—making you want to clap and dance and party everywhere—and hopefully their upcoming full-length Landmark, released from Grand Jury Records, will embody that same youthfulness. Two singles have already been released off the album—one called “Monsoon” which is a surprising slower track, compared to “Boyish” which upkeeps the band’s high speed and original flavor. Hippo Campus was also featured in a short documentary on Showtime called Roadies—just in case you wanted a glimpse of what life is like on the road for these guys and their crew.
