We Are Scientists @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 1/12

It’s interesting to know that what brought Keith Murray and Chris Cain together to begin the band We Are Scientists wasn’t just music, but comedy. From the beginning, having met in college in California, the dynamic of the band was to include humor in their creative process and friendship—which seems to have worked well for the duo, now having released their fifth studio album Helter Seltzer. Songs like “Want for Nothing” and “Headlights” are what you’d come to expect from their earlier sound, as heard on their 2008 album Brain Thrust Mastery in particular. But We Are Scientists’ true core resides in a quirky spot—a little off-kilter, messy-in-a-good-way rock that weaves into moments of funky punk, synthesized dramatics, and meant-to-be-heard-live tracks.

When the band couldn’t springboard themselves onto a label, they created their own called Devious Semantics before signing with Virgin Records and Dine Alone Music Inc. to release their following work. They’ve also written a short play, a TV short for MTV UK, tend to their own blog on their website with funny pics and videos, and even have an advice column where fans can write in and ask random questions to be answered by the band.

We Are Scientists play in Brooklyn on 1/12. Prepare for an entertaining show, full of humor and good spirits.
