Austin’s very own psych influenced indie rock band, The Bright Light Social Hour, will play their first show of 2017 at popular San Marcos music venue, The Marc.
While attending Southwestern, Jack O’Brien teamed up with fellow students Curtis Roush and Thomas Choate, to form The Bright Light Social Hour. After a short hiatus, due to O’Brien’s semester studying abroad in Spain, the band linked up once again– this time with drummer Joseph Mirasole –to release their 2007 debut EP Touches.
O’Brien and Roush went on to enroll in a Master’s degree program at the University of Texas, leading to the bands relocation to the capital city. Sonically, the group has improved quite a bit since the start of the new decade. 2010 saw the release of the bands eponymous debut, The Bright Light Social Hour, which showcased the bands love of soul and psychedelia. Along with the album, came a considerable growth in popularity, making the band a hot ticket for national tours, as well as inclusion in some the country’s most popular music festivals.
You can head south on I-35 for their– sure to be energetic and spirited –show at The Marc on January 28th.
