Brooklyn, NY-based Sacred Bones Records was founded by Caleb Braaten in 2007 and is home to many of independent music’s most adventurous artists like Exploded View, Zola Jesus, Marissa Nadler, John Carpenter, Timmy’s Organism, Cult of Youth, and of course, The Men. In response to the ongoing protests around Standing Rock Native American Reservation, North Dakota and the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline across the Missouri River and through the reservation. The protests have been ongoing for several months but have recently gained greater attention as the election cycle has finally ended.
The top of the label’s Bandcamp site reads: “PAY WHAT YOU WANT, FOR STANDING ROCK” – Through December 4th, our entire digital catalog is pay-what-you-want on Bandcamp with all proceeds benefiting the Standing Rock water protectors in North Dakota.”
Just a few of the albums included in this offer are some of 2016’s best, such as Marissa Nadler’s dark folk-pop outing Strangers, the experimental pop of journalist Anika’s transcontinental band Exploded View’s self-titled debut, and Soundwalk Collective’s collaborative Nico-tribute album with Jesse and Patti Smith, Killer Road. It also includes the just-added to Bandcamp, early-career classic by The Men, Immaculada.
As the headline states, the catalog is available on Bandcamp until Sunday, December 4th.
