This Thanksgiving Failure gave us a nice Happy Thanksgiving present by releasing the Fantastic Planet Live album. In honor of celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 17 track album Fantastic Planet, the band started with a month long US tour back in October. The tour had a similar route of shows when they followed up with their tour after the albums August 1996 release. At each of the shows, they recorded multi-tracks and each performance was evaluated by the band to select the best rendition of each song. The tracks were then mixed by Ken Andrews to create the final product.
Fantastic Planet was first released on August 13th, 1996 earning much praise. Since this album’s release, the album has grown and become one of its times most influential rock records. With such high praise, Pitchfork dubbed the album as “a sleeper classic” and Decibel wrote a “seven page Hall of Fame” feature of the album stating “seriously this is one of those albums that’s so perfect, the band almost had to implode after its release.”
UPDATE (11/28): There is no official release date given for the album at this time, but the album can be purchased at Pledgemusic.com. According to one commenter on the PledgeMusic site, the order fullfilment is due by April 28, 2017.
Stay tuned for more updates on this album.
