American rock band OK Go premiered their new video for the song “The One Moment,” on November 23rd simultaneously on the Facebook pages for OK Go, Entertainment Tonight, GameSpot, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, select CBS RADIO station pages and streaming service Radio.com.
The video has followed the format laid out by previous video’s of the band of creating beautifully ellaborate videos. What sets “The One Moment” apart is that in spite of the intricate nature of the video it remained true to it’s title and actually only took one moment to shoot. The video was directed by OK Go singer Damian Kulash, and begins and end with short periods of real time but the heart of the video of it was captured in a mere 4.2 seconds.
“The song ‘The One Moment’ is about those moments in life when you are most alive, the moments that truly matter, the moments when everything changes.” says Kulash, Jr. “We shot the video in a single moment to bring this feeling to life. We want to show that a single moment can contain so much wonder, so much beauty, and so much change. We hope it helps inspire people to use their moments wisely.”
During the film, band members create and interact with hundreds of events centered around the idea the moments in life when everything changes; the crossroads in life. These moment’s in the video highlight the opportunity and need for people to recognize these moments and step up when they have a chance to make a difference even if it just seems like one small moment.
Kulash, Jr explained how playing with speed and time made such a powerful statement possible in such a small moment of filming stating “We triggered 325 events with extremely precise digital triggers to create the choreography, which unfolds over a little more than four seconds,” explains Damian Kulash, Jr. “We shot with extremely high-speed cameras, which allows us to stretch those few seconds over the full length of the song. Our fastest frame rate was a little over 6000 frames per second, which effectively slows down time to be 20,000% slower than we normally experience it. At those moments, we’re seeing things move through the air that, in real life, are moving faster than the speed of sound.”
Additionally OK Go has partnered with Morton Salt, Inc. to an effort to create an interactive version of “the One Moment” in honor of individuals who have been in the forefront of initiatives to help others. In this interactive space gives usuers access to behind the scenes of the making of the video, and exclusive access to the “Walk Her Walk Talks” which feature stories about the one moment that gave these people the passion to make a difference in the world. These video’s highlight the “Walk Her Walk” movement by Morton, Salt Inc and seeks to use the unforgetable image and spirit of the iconic Morton Salt Girl to drive, support and inspire positive change. The interactive version of “The One Moment” can be viewed exclusively at the “Walk Her Walk” website.
Tomorrow Kalush Jr will be holding a Facebook live chat so if you have any question for the band about the video or anything that has inspired you now is your “One Moment” to get them answered.
