Known for their legendary status in rock music, Iceland-born music veterans Sigur Rós have decided to release an updated version of their classic song “Hoppípolla”, this reported by SPIN The original version was released in 2005 and used in the trailer for the first season of the treasured BBC television series Planet Earth. The band’s new version was created for the show’s second season, which airs January 28th in The United States.

Recently, Sigur Rós released a statement on the BBC website about the new version:

In Iceland we are blessed with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of wild and untamed places. But even here, in the very furthest flung corners of Europe’s largest wilderness, the scars of human industry are visible, the plans for future encroachments, by dam and smelter, legion. If lost the Icelandic highlands are not recoverable. Around the world the story is the same; the traffic, literally, going in one direction. Sigur Rós are proud to be associated with Planet Earth II and its all-important mission to hold us rapt in understanding of, and respect for, this endlessly fascinating, utterly surprising and ultimately fragile place we are lucky enough to call home for a short while.

Sigur Rós has been active this year performing at various festivals. In February, they performed at Fuji Festival, following that up by performing at the Treasure Island Festival  in June.
