Famous London night club Fabric indefinitely closed it’s doors after two eighteen year olds attending the concert passed away from drug overdoses. The Islington Council–the local autority for the surrounding area– decided to shut down the club after the incident, citing “a culture of drugs at Fabric which management cannot control” as the reason. However, the club is set to reopen after an incredible effort was put forth to bring the club back.
Judge Robin McPhee overuled the decision to close down the club after a petition to save Fabric reached 160,000 signatures. Except this time around, safety is a major issue and rules are expected to be much stricter. McPhee gave the club a list of conditions they must abide by in order to keep the doors open such as: No person under 19 is allowed in the venue, anyone caught in possession of or disributiong drugs must be ban for life, and the club must install ID scanners along with CCTV live-feed monitors.
Fabric released a statement regarding the ruling, saying “Fabric is committed to doing all it reasonably can to ensure that no more of its clubbers come to drug-related harm. It also recognises that there need to be, and will be, changes to its management structure and accountability.”
They also issued a more sentimental message on their Facebook page thanking their patrons for their unconditional support.
Fabric Night Club is one of London’s major hot spots, constantly hosting some of the biggest names in electronic music. They first opened the club in October of 1999 and is well known because of it’s unique layout and state-of-the-art sound equipment including a “bodysonic” (vibrating) dance floor in one of the three rooms. Two of the rooms have their own stage for the live entertainment, and each has their own individual sound systems.
