The American rock band from New York, Vampire Weekend has had a successful career with their last two albums reaching #1 on the Billboard Chart. The group has been signed to XL recording label for each of their records in the past. For the bands upcoming album, Vampire Weekend is switching labels moving from XL to Columbia Records. This is a harsh blow for XL for them to lose a band that have reached #1 on the Billboard charts for two albums.
Vampire Weekend will be releasing their new album sometime around spring or summer of 2017 followed with a tour. This will be the first album after 3 years since Modern Vampires of the City and also the departure of bandmate Rostam Batmanglij. Back in January of this year, Rostam announced his resignation from the group via his Twitter page. There was some speculation when Rostam released a single and video as a solo project.
The break up was fueled in order to evolve his songwriting and producing identity as independent from the band. Even though Rostam has departed from the band he will still be collaborating with his old band for their new album. It will be interesting to see the finished product of Vampire Weekend’s upcoming album with such large changes of losing a bandmate and switching labels.
