The Lumineers are everywhere. And they have been ever since the release of their self-titled album back in 2012, putting themselves on the radar with popular songs like “Ho Hey,” “Flowers in Your Hair,” and “Stubborn Love”— turning this band from a modest indie-folk trio into one of the biggest bands of this generation.
It wasn’t until Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites moved to Denver (after deciding that they wanted to live somewhere with an interesting and creative music scene that wouldn’t bind them financially to live there) that they met cellist Neyla Pekarek after putting out an ad on Craig’s List. And ever since then, The Lumineers took off—selling albums like crazy, racing to the top of the charts, and getting nominated for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album at the Grammys.
Cleopatra is the name of their well-anticipated second album, as well as the name of their world tour for 2017. Play it low, play it loud—it’s an energetic, heartfelt album that doesn’t stray from their original sound (which happens a lot with bands when they try to surpass their breakout success by releasing an album that tries so hard to be great that every song sounds the same and is uncharacteristically too experimental). Cleopatra isn’t just an album that feels good, that can be played alone or at a party and its vibe is somehow suitable for all moods and moments, but it’s an album that can sell out arenas like Madison Square Garden and then decide later to add a second show because the band is just that big.
