WATCH: John Legend Releases New Video for “Love Me Now”

John Legend has released the song “Love Me Now”.

The song was written and produced by John Legend, along with the help of Blake Mills and John Ryan. Directed by Nabil Elderkin, who has worked with artists like Kanye West and Travis Scott, the video shows how love still exists even through times of difficulty.

The song includes places many locations such as the Domiz Refugee Camp in Northern Iraq, the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Puerto Plata in the Domician Republic and the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota. The video also includes Legend’s family.

According to the press release, Elderkin had said ” “This video shows how love can be shared in some of the most difficult situations on earth in which the human spirit and connection with each other prevails.  From one of the longest standing refugee camps in northern Iraq just 45 miles outside of Mosul, to Standing Rock Reservation where they are fighting against the Dakota Access Pipeline that threatens their sacred lands and all of our water, it is a glimpse into these couples’ lives and the lives of those in their communities.”

On Thursday, Legend had released a long statement on his Instagram about his song saying the following:

“We didn’t think about the election when we planned the release date for this song and video,” he wrote. “But in this time of conflict and uncertainty, it’s clear that we all need more love. I find it in my family and in my music. Embracing my family has made today full of love and light despite the bad news. But it’s also important that we show love and empathy to people who may not look like us or live like us. Those who are marginalized and rejected, feared and left behind.”

He also added “From Standing Rock to Iraq, from Orlando to the DR. Love is universal. We all need it. We all can give it. And it will ultimately win over hate. I have to believe that.”

This song will be a part of the artist’s upcoming album Darkness and Light.
