Fans of The Flaming Lips have a new reason to be excited for the future. The Flaming Lips have not only released new music but have followed along with the trend of dropping videos along with music by putting out a video for their new song “How??”
From the cover image of the video and the first shot of the video you can see that the use of color was important to The Flaming Lips. The video starts off with two young women zipping up leather jumpsuits one a bright red and the other sky blue. The next shot will let your know your not watching a typical music video used to promote a product. The two young women are riding scooters that are covered in light up stuffed animals.
In the next shot, they pull up to the door of what appears to be a club or house. This shot starts to bring some context to the imagery, possibly their going to a Halloween part or maybe a costume party. But no, they enter into a room filled with smoke and the woman dressed in red is shooting a flare at the women dressed in blue while she rolls around the ground appearing to actually enjoy the bizarre setting.
The next shot brings a new element into the video, another woman. This woman is dressed in a similar jumpsuit but the color is yellow. In perhaps the most bizarre shot of the video the three of them begin to play with a flaming jump rope. During all of this the lead vocalist stands protected in what looks like a plastic bubble and watches as the madness never gets to him. There are points in the video when fireworks and flare are fired at him but he stands protected. Possibly visibly explaining why the song is called “How??” through the women opening fire on him when he begins to sing.
Fans have been anticipating what is to come next from The Flaming Lips due to the fact that they have been active this year in the music scene. This year The Flaming Lips released a video for their song “The Castle” and paired it with the announcement of touring dates for Spring 2017.
Their success is recognized and respected across the board as can be seen from the recognition from Marvel Comics. The Flaming Lips were included in a new X-Men comic. This follows along with a trend from Marvel to incorporate album covers and artists into the cover and story of comics.
The Flaming Lips new album OCZY MLODY will be released January 13th, 2017.
