Barbican Hosts The Can Project Featuring Founding Member Irmin Schmidt, London Symphony Orchestra and Thurston Moore

Barbican is officially hosting the event The Can Project that will have two separate performances. Irmin Schmidt, the founding member for Can will premiere an orchestral reinterpretation of the classic Can material as well as new music alongside the London Symphony Orchestra. Then, Schmidt will perform in front of an all-star band of former Can Members and admirers who pay tribute to the music of this legendary and groundbreaking band.

The Can Project takes an approach in which Schmidt will be conducting the world premier of his piece An Homage to Can weaving together abstractions of some of the band’s pieces. The second half of the show will bring out a supergroup headlined by Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) with ex-Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit along with Can’s first singler Malcolm Mooney. Can is known as one of the most influential rock groups of all time, affecting the works of artists today.

The concert will be follows with a Q&A with Rob Young who is the author of a new book devoted to Can with a biography and memior of Schmidt. The event will take place April 8th 2017 and tickets are now on sale as of today.
