Donald Glover, otherwise known by his stage name Childish Gambino, premiered a track from his forthcoming third LP Awaken, My Love! on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1. It is titled “Me and Your Mama”, and it is a fitting premature introduction of the upcoming album, due December 2nd via Glassnote. With a gospel-esque choir and sporadic demonic laughter, the heavily contrasting ambiance of the entire song is almost theatrical sounding with its steep transitions from slow and cool jazz sounds to intense outbursts of loud instrumentals. Topped with Glover’s voice which seems to be screaming more so than singing and founded with a heavy bass track to make your speakers bump, this track is a literal banger. The title seems to almost purposely mislead the listener into thinking it’s going to be a cantankerous rap song, but check it out and experience the surprise for yourself below:
