Ryan Adams’ New As-Of-Now Untitled Album is Delayed

Though it was announced with little fanfare back in early September, and few specific details were given, Ryan Adams’ latest album was scheduled to be released yesterday, November 4. As the day came and went without any news of release, the Oregonian reports Adams’ reps have confirmed the 11/4 release date will be delayed.

Despite the fact that he claims to have a wealth of material to select from, he has not finished the record. Adams had this to say about the album’s creative process in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“I think the challenge for me—the Everest peak, for me—is to tell this story in 11 songs, to tell this part of my life in 11 songs. How do I make a real distinct record where anybody listens to it and says, ‘That’s the truth from beginning to end.'”

Just a month ago it seemed things were on track, with Adams excited for the Nov. 4 release date.

This still-untitled album would be Adams first release of original material since his self-titled studio album in 2014. His fourteenth full length was not Adams’ last proper release, as he surprised the world with the release of his reinterpretation of Taylor Swift’s landmark pop release 1989.

The reworking of that divisive album by the Raleigh, North Carolina singer-songwriter was met with extremely mixed reactions, from the positive to the negative. Ultimately, Adams has decided he will never release another covers album again.

Knowing Adams and his penchant for announcing release date with only a few days’ notice, keep an eye out for his 16th studio full-length.
