Abba Developing New “Virtual and Live” Experience For 2018

Earlier this year in June, renown Swedish pop quartet ABBA, comprised of Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, briefly reunited to perform at a private party in Stockholm in celebration of their 50th anniversary, after being broken up for more than 30 years. But the decades old group seems to be expecting greater things in the current digital age.

In a press release, it was made clear that ABBA had partnered with Simon Fuller (creator of American Idol and former manager of the Spice Girls) and Universal Music Group for what they called “an original entertainment experience” that involves virtual reality.

The press release further explained that Fuller’s businesses have been investing in developing hyper-realistic digital humans in the field of entertainment.” He explained, “We are exploring new technological world, with Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined.”

Although pretty much nothing is clear at the moment, the way that Fuller describes the “groundbreaking venture that will utilise the very latest in digital and virtual reality technology” might make fans excited for a new way to see the influential pop group.

Lyngstad said fans around the world always ask about a reunion, and added: “I hope this new Abba creation will excite them as much as it excites me.”

Andersson said: “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were and are.”
