In 1967, the Velvet Underground and Nico recorded an album that was just as unique as it was special for the band. Now it is 50 years later, and the now famous album and relationship of the Velvet Underground and Nico has also turned 50. Marking a huge milestone for the band and a special anniversary, the band is scheduled to do an anniversary concert. John Cale, member of the Velvet Underground, has stated that he does not always like to dwell on things of the past; however, given an album that is very dear to his heart, Cale has expressed great excitement to perform for the anniversary concert in May 26. The early summer concert will be in Liverpool, England at the Liverpool Waters, Clarence Dock. The show is also supposed to feature many other musicians and guests, making it truly a monumental occasion.
This anniversary of Nico and the Velvet Underground comes at an interesting time for Nico’s namesake. Beginning production in just a few weeks, a new biopic about the life of Nico is set to be filmed. Though Nico’s life consists of several highs and lows, odd relationships and Andy Warhol experiences, and the beginnings of the Velvet Underground, the film will focus on the last years of Nico. The movie will begin in 1987, just before her death. The film is titled Nico, 1988.
