Radiohead’s In Rainbows bonus disk is now available on streaming services for the first time. The group originally packaged In Rainbows Part 2 with the In Rainbows box set, released in 2009.
In Rainbows itself was not made available for streaming until this year. Radiohead’s latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, is currently available to stream on all major streaming platforms.
Radiohead have a long, strained history with streaming technology, and internet music sharing in general.
In 2008, they self-released In Rainbows via their own website, allowing fans to choose their own price for the album.
However, Thom Yorke has consistently expressed negative opinions about streaming technology. In a 2013 interview with Mexican website Sopitas, Yorke famously referred to Spotify as “the last desperate fart of a dying corpse.”
He went much further in his criticism of YouTube.
“The creators of services make money – Google, YouTube. A huge amount of money, by trawling, like in the sea – they take everything there is,” Yorke said in an interview. “‘Oh, sorry, was that yours? Now it’s ours. No, no, we’re joking – it’s still yours’. They’ve seized control of it – it’s like what the Nazis did during the second world war.”
