A mere eight years ago, Austin Carlile departed from the metalcore band, Attack Attack!, pioneered in Westerville, Ohio and paired with Jaxin Hall. In 2009, the duo created a band called Of Mice and Men- derived from the John Steinbeck novel. This metalcore band originated in Orange County, California and has released four successful studio albums since.
Starting with their first album in 2010, Of Mice And Men. Quickly following behind, The Flood, then Restoring Force and finally in 2016, Cold world. Cold World has instantaneously hit the metalcore world in flames. From tracks, “Game Of War”, “Contagious” and “Down The Road” have already become hits in this short period of time. Readily, they set out to have a 2016 concert tour throughout Europe. However, things didn’t go as planned.
Touring with Slipknot and Marilyn Manson this past summer, Austin Carlile was able to set aside any health issues that prevailed. Carlile, a victim of Marfan syndrome, wore a leg brace at the end of the tour- only making his condition worse. Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects the heart, eyes, blood vessels and bones. There is no cure but there are various treatments.
Pushing aside the pain, Carlile was resolute to tour Cold World in Europe this fall. Reportedly by various concertgoers, he was seemingly in pain and struggling to perform on October 9th. Of Mice and Men made a social media post canceling their tour due to Carlile’s illness. Exceptionally cooperative, fans from all over were broadcasting their support for Austin.
“Dear European Fans,
It is with our sincerest apologies that we are forced to cancel the remaining dates on this current headline tour. We had to cut short our set in Portsmouth on Saturday night due to Austin being in pain throughout the show. We attempted to play the show in Cardiff the following night, but it became increasingly obvious that we were not able to continue and that we need to focus on Austin’s health. As much as we wish we could complete the remaining dates of this tour we know that we would be doing a disservice to all of our loyal fans, as well as ourselves, performing under the current circumstances.
The reality is that we feel the best thing to do right now is go home, get Austin the appropriate medical attention & regroup before we head back out on the road again. We appreciate that our fans understand how important it is that we put health first & foremost & know that we would never cancel shows unless we felt it absolutely necessary.
Refunds will be available at point of purchase for all cancelled shows.
Much love- Aaron, Alan, Austin, Phil & Tino.”
“Please do not worry for me — there are multiple things more important happening in the world right now. Besides, God has a plan, all of this is in His hands at the end of the day and I’m ready for whatever comes next.” –Austin Carlile
