Embarking on a world tour is exhausting. We’ve seen constant traveling and daily performances over months take its toll on the health of countless artists. That’s why it’d be reasonable to expect an artist like Grimes to use her breaks to relax and catch up on sleep.
Not the case. Between stops on her AC!D Reign tour in Europe, Claire Boucher, brother Mac Boucher, and best friend/raising musician HANA instead used their downtime to shoot seven music videos. Yes, seven.
While the collaboration was planned, a complete string of seven clips was not. The artists came together to film a video for Grimes’s “World Princess Part II” from Grimes’s Art Angels album. In the zone, they group decided one was not enough and continued to film until completing six more – 3 off of each artist’s latest album. The clips are a part of a 38-minute short entitled The AC!D Reign Chronicles: The War of Art (A Trashique Adventure). Claire Boucher took to Twitter to discuss the endeavor.
Grimes and HANA took advantage of Europe’s finest landscapes to create videos with gorgeous backdrops. What’s more impressive is the quality of the production given the almost non-existent budget. The videos were all shot “guerilla style,” using only an iPhone and their surroundings. “There was no crew, makeup, cameras, lights. Just us and a phone, so maybe don’t expect anything too fancy” Grimes stated on Twitter.
The trio created videos for Art Angel’s “Butterfly,” “World Princess Part II,” “Scream Feat. Aristophanes,” and “Belly Of The Beat,” along with HANA’s “Underwater,” “Chimera,” and “Avalanche” from HANA. Check them out below. Or skip to the end and watch the “Director’s Cut” to see all them together as they were intended to be viewed.
