American singer songwriter Conor Oberst killed it during his solo performance in Golden State Park, San Francisco at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival on Friday. Little did the audience know the surprise in store for them, when he was joined onstage with My morning Jacket lead Jim James and M. Ward for an epic Monsters of Folk reunion to close the festival– minus original band member Mike Mogis.

The crowd erupted in applause as the men took the stage and embraced one another, before performing two of their previous songs “Say Please” and “Whole Lotta Losin'” from their self-titled debut album.

“If you guys close your eyes, it’s gunna be 2009 again,” Oberst jokingly said in between songs.

Monsters of Folk debuted in 2010 and has been the only album under the band’s belt. Since then the band has gone on tour once, and recently reunited in July for a gig in Los Angeles before the performance at this years Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. The HSB Festival this year also featured artists including The Infamous Stringdusters, Steve Earle, and Shawn Colvin.

Keeping busy on the road, Conor Oberst recently announced his Fall 2016 Tour dates and will be coming out with Ruminations, brand new album later this month.

You will be able to catch Jim James’ My Morning Jacket at the Bridge School Benefit Concert later this month, and be on the lookout for solo album release called Eternally Even from James next month.

M. Ward already dropped his new album earlier in March entitled More Rain featuring twelve soothing tracks when you’re looking for the perfect tracks to compliment the gloomy weather.
