The incredibly innovative virtual rock group Gorillaz has released yet another unique project to their dedicated fans. It isn’t quite an album which is what people were expecting, but a multi-media story called “The Book of Noodle.” It’s a story about the bands guitarist Noodle, following “the days after the attack on Plastic Beach,” a multimedia saga to their 2010 album Plastic Beach. She opens a large pearl submerged beneath the ocean depths, releasing an “ancient hell demon.”
In the ten part series, we come across a severed head, a Moby Dick reference, and interesting illustration to match the strange narrative. But hey, what else would you expect from Gorillaz? Watch the story in its entirety below.
Fans can also expect an album announcement for a 2017 release date as word regarding a new album bounces around the music scene and Gorillaz fanverse. There are even confirmed collaborations with acclaimed artists such as De La Soul an Snoop Dogg, so keep your eyes peeled.
The band has recently been active across their various social media outlets, and even posted a picture to Facebook with the caption “The Gang is Back.” Check out the post along with information following an accidental leak on Gorillaz official site that hinted towards upcoming live performances and band merch here.
The upcoming album with be a followup to their fourth studio project, Plastic Beach which was released in March 2010. The album sold over 74,000 copies in its first week in the UK, debuting at number two on the UK Albums Chart. In the Unites States, the album sold 112,000 copies in the first week and landed at number two on the Billboard 200 list.
