The firstborn lovechild of a new and diversely crossbred super-group known as LIV was born today. The group, which is made up of Lykke Li, Andrew Wyatt and Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow, and Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn & John, have come together and released their first single “Wings of Love”.
The song, which was produced by Jeff Bhasker (who also happens to be Lykke Li’s significant other), is a very easy-listening style of indie with just a tinge of folk lingering in its upbeat drum track and guitar riffs. While it is rather uniform throughout, with a repetitive refrain and and rather consistent rhythm, the blend of sounds that each of these artists brings to the table individually makes it truly unique and definitely worth listening to. Do so below:
This is the first we have yet to hear from the artists collectively, whom all belong to label/artist collective Ingrid, which they started back in 2012. On an individual level, Lykke Li’s last released album was over two years ago when she released I Never Learn back in 2014. This album was series of deeply emotional heartbreak ballads including well-received singles such as “Never Gonna Love Again”, “Gunshot”, and “No Rest for the Wicked”.
Miike Snow’s last album, iii was released this past March, and they are currently touring in support of the album.
Peter Bjorn & John has been staying busy as well. Their most recent album Breakin’ Point dropped last summer, and they have been performing at festivals such as Summerfest 2016.
10/12 UPDATE:
The new supergroup released a new music video for their debut single “Wings of Love”, and it is beautifully raw and risque (definitely NSFW). The artistically animated short film features bare bodies frolicking through the forest, and colorful pieces of art painted by Malin Gabriella Nordin, and the following love poem:
“If you were a drug I would die in your ecstasy and your name would be utopia.
I would gladly jump a thousand feet into an pitch black lake just to have something to remember in mid-November when the darkness wraps around us.
I remember the sun, who refused to go down.
I remember your naked back; the most beautiful painting I’ve ever seen.
I remember you kissed me and all I could think of was;
Don’t forget me, don’t forget me.”
