As far as Australian punk rock goes, The Living End is where it’s at. They produce listenable punk music with edge and rock influences while also being good at playing their instruments. The idea behind the name ‘The Living End’ comes from a Rock Around the Block reference, also because of the band’s specific interest in 50s terminology.
The sound they produce is close to an Australian Green Day, but with more grit. Each power chord is strong and the messages the write about are definitely worthy of attention. It’s always admirable when bands use their stature to spread ideas and social awareness as they do.
Since they have been around since the mid-90s, The Living End has achieved a great knack for performing dynamic and fun live shows. They have experienced tons of critical and commercial success, but that hasn’t changed their love of making music for the purpose of sharing it with their audience.
