You can hear the Louisiana in the music of Cowboy Mouth. Like any band, they have faced many trials and tribulations, but even more so because of the diminishing rock market. They were dropped from their label in 2000 after nearly ten years of success, but they have found their own way since then with independent albums and touring.
Cowboy Mouth is well-known for putting on impressive live shows with high energy and great musicianship. Their sound is a fusion of southern alt rock and jam band influences, turning out a really great sound. With a little country twang in the vocals, the guitar maintains the band’s rock stance by instilling some blues licks and killer solos.
Touring alongside Cowboy Mouth is another Louisiana native band, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. A huge influence on the brass scene in New Orleans, they have managed to incorporate funk into the traditional jazz known to their hometown. They’ve been around since the early 1980s, so it is safe to say that each member is great at what they do. The sound Dirty Dozen creates together is one of a kind and has inspired countless others.
Not only should you see these incredible bands for their talent, but a portion of ticket sales will be donated to Louisiana Flood Relief, so it’s also a great cause.
