Back in 2012, the New York experimental pop group The Dirty Projectors released Swing Lo Magellan one of the best albums of that year. The album came to the scene in the mid summer with such a fresh and lush sound. The group seemed to disappear and fall back in the scene since we haven’t heard anything of them since 2012. We haven’t heard much from the group other than one of the group member’s Amber Coffman who came forth accusing music publicist Heathcliff Berru of sexual assault at the beginning of the year. This accusation panned out to be true in which Berru lost his job and has since then be ostracized from the community after such behavior.
Today the band released a new video snippet via the band’s Twitter account. There was no press release or any text to follow except for questioning the return of The Dirty Projectors. The short 19 second clip portrays a pair of hands moving up and down with the sounds of flutes, piano, and horns playing in the background. The black and white clip gives a bizarre teaser from what to expect from the band in particular the primary composer David Longstreth known for his eclectic sound that adds that humph to the indie rock scene. Hopefully this little teaser is an indication that a new album will be in store for us.
After Monday’s music tease from the group, they followed up with another 45 second video that features Dave Longstreth wiggling his jaw with an audio loop that runs only a few seconds. The tweet caption reads “What We Imagined and What We Became.” I wonder if this could be a potential song title for the future. The band also updated their Twitter and Facebook accounts to feature images of Longstreth. The group must be giving another hint to the future music of The Dirty Projectors.
