Rasputina have announced a winter 2016 tour that will run throughout the month of October. It kicks off on October 9th in Pawling, NY and then will finish up on October 31st in Seattle. The tour is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the group’s debut album Thanks for the Ether. In addition to the tour, they will be issuing a redux of the album titled Ether? You’re Welcome.
Rasputina consists of Melora Creager (voice, cello, banjo), Luis Mojica (piano, beat-boxing) and Polly Panic (cello, voice). The unique group was a pioneer in the use of cello as the sole instrument in a rock band. They don historical costumes during shows that showcase past female figures. Their most recent album release was 2015’s Unknown. The album was written and recorded in just three weeks. Of the album, Creager stated
“Unknown, was made in a state of clinical psychosis. I had a serious mental breakdown, and my life fell apart, but I’ve got that album as a literal record of the experience- the pain, the fear, and the delusions. Since that time, through therapy, much self-work, study and exploration (and a little medication), I have healed and totally transformed my perception of our world and my place in it. The stuff I’ve learned is so beautiful and simple, but hard-won. I can’t wait to share it all- Universal lessons, hilarious delusions, terror that we all share deep down- in book form, next year.”
The band also just released a DVD titled “Live in Hotlanta- 1816”. The DVD showcases footage from the group’s recital in Atlanta last year.
