With both a grammy under his belt as well as the #1 spot for creepiest music video, Aphex Twin (né Richard David James) may be one of music’s simultaneously most celebrated and alternative electronic dance musician. And after 8 years without US live show, Aphex Twin will return this December for the second annual Day for Night festival located in Houston, Texas.
The performance will mark his first official live set since the release of his critically-acclaimed LP Syro. Syro was his first release in 13 years when it came out in 2014, and has been followed by three widely praised, creatively diverse EPs: Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt. 2, Orphaned Deejay Selek (2006-2008) and the recently released Cheetah.
The Irish-born beatsmith’s last US performance came at Coachella, where he made a surprise appearance. It’s been even longer — 17 years in fact — since he played a gig for which tickets were available in advance.
Day for Night is a two day art and music festival that advertises itself as “featuring world class musicians as well as leaders in various disciplines of digital art.” We have to admit, snagging Aphex Twin definitely makes you look like a leader.
“We can indeed confirm Aphex Twin is performing at Day for Night,” festival producer Omar Afra tells Billboard Dance. “This is the second moon landing for Houston.”
