A quick search on our website for “Phil Rudd” is a pretty clear indication of how rough the last two years have been for the ex-AC/DC drummer. Being charged for plotting murder, followed by being sentenced to home detention for drug possession and threatening to kill 2 people, then again being arrested for consumption of alcohol (in violation with the terms of said home detention)? That’s definitely not an easy two years for anyone to go through.
In addition to all of that, the rockstar just revealed that he had recently undergone an emergency procedure due to suffering a heart attack. Most people might think that such a series of events may be a sign for you to slow down, but this is absolutely not the case for Phil Rudd. In an interview with the New Zealand Herald, Rudd has said that he’s already recuperated and feels better than ever to return to his kit.
“Yeah, I had f—ing heart attack, but I am good now, got a stent inside,” Rudd says.
The AC/DC legend continues, “I was just at home walking around at home, and I started feel, well just funny. You know how you can feel funny? I had a strange pain in my chest. So my housekeeper took me to the hospital, when they hooked me up and did all these tests turned out I had a big heart attack…my artery was all blocked up, and they said I had to stay in and have an operation.”
Rudd also spoke about what he did after doctors broke the news of his heart attack, representing the entirety of his character pretty well: “I sneaked out to the shop to get some cigarettes, then I realized I had no car, so I walked home to get the Ferrari, and drove back to the hospital.”
With Rudd recovered from his heart procedure, the drummer now plans on touring this fall in support of his solo record Head Job. Although the LP was completed in 2014 and released in Australia and New Zealand (Rudd’s birth and home countries, respectively), “further promotional plans were scuppered by well publicized legal problems in New Zealand,” according to a press release. The record will be widely released in other countries on September 30.
“I made mistakes, but I am really good now,” Rudd proclaims. “Life is good. I’m positive and healthy. I really appreciate the support of the fans around the world, which kept me going through, you know, some of the dark times, and I cannot wait to play the music for them, it is going to rock.”
But perhaps recent events have been somewhat of an indicator for the fast-living skinsman to ease on the accelerator a little bit. “[My] hell raising days are over,” the drummer said in a statement. “I see a psychiatrist once a week and I’m closer than ever to my children. I still have all my flash cars but now I want to grow chillies.”
