Nightmares on Wax, Romare, Adam Stolz @ Smart Bar 12/2

The first time I heard Nightmares on Wax, I heard the song “You Wish”. I had never heard a m0re relaxing and atmospheric song in my entire life. I waited for the singing to start, but I soon realized that it was just an instrumental track, like the majority of Nightmares on Wax songs. After finding out more about them, I came to the realization that it wasn’t “them” but more of a “him” – George Evelyn. George is a DJ from across the pond and all of his work is remarkable.

He has managed to mix hip hop beats with soul and all kinds of influences from his early days in the music industry. But not only has he built Nightmares On Wax from the bottom up, but after disappearing from the public eye for five years, he reappeared – with live musicians. This adds to the dreamlike quality of their live shows and has brought a new life to the band.

One of the two opening acts, Romare, borrows his stage name from Romare Bearden, the prolific artist and writer who showed the life of being African-American through his work. Romare loved his work and cut-and-paste style, so he decided to make him his namesake. Adam Stolz is a musician from the Windy City himself, with an uncommon, funky take on techno music. All of these artists have great things in the horizon, and it’s exciting watching their music garner more attention. Go check them out at the Smart Bar!
