Acclaimed post-punk act Public Image Ltd has announced deluxe re-releases of their works Metal Box and Album.
Both albums can be purchased in one of three versions: digital, vinyl record, or CD. All versions include demos, outtakes, and other additional content. Due to the time restrictions of the format, the vinyl version of both albums will not include the additional cuts. However, buyers will receive download codes to make sure that they are able to obtain all of the missing content. Both editions contain a 72 page booklet and a poster. The LP version contains exclusive art prints, while the CD version contains exclusive postcards.
Metal Box will be issued in a PIL-embossed square tin for both the CD and LP versions. This is a callback to the original 1979 release, which was distributed in a metal box made to resemble a film canister. The album became notorious for its dark, vulnerable “stream of consciousness” vocals, synthesized ambiance, reggae-influenced bass-lines, and plucky, arpeggio-tinged guitars. The record is considered a post-punk landmark for its embrace of avant-garde into the punk consciousness.
