Jimmy Eat World is anything but a new band. On some level, they are almost veterans of their craft, seasoned. It seems the band has had its albums and hiatuses like anyone else. Yet, to bring new life to an old band, an acclaimed producer and the excitement of the band brings 2016 a new album by Jimmy Eat World, titled Integrity Blues.
Integrity Blues is set to release on October 21. But, that has not stopped Jimmy Eat World from releasing two singles from the new album, giving the audience a preview of what is to come. Earlier in August, “Get Right” was released, followed a week or two after by “Sure and Certain,” a great song to examine as to what to expect from the newest album. With a steady, moderate drum beat throughout the song that doesn’t demand much force nor denies acknowledgement, the “Sure and Certain” has a low-key energy and steady rhythm. Even more the verses hold singular vocals that sharply and yet subtly tell a story, while harmonies and other vocals backup the lead in the chorus showing a smooth transition. This frame is repetitive throughout the song until the three quarters through breakdown, consisting of a changed tone that only builds back up into the heart of the song until the ending. In sum, “Sure and Certain” conveys hope and encouragement through a smooth sounding track which potentially foreshadows Integrity Blues.
To add, this album is add even more special in that it was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen. Medal-Johnsen has produced bands from M83 to Paramore, and adds credibility and an irreplaceable value to Integrity Blues.
