Darkwave/synthpop artist Cold Cave, aka Wesley Eisold, has announced a new 7 inch EP for a September 9th release. The release will be limited to only 500 copies, so dedicated fans need to jump on that right away. The eponymous side A track can be listened to below:
The incredibly abrasive track starts out with a marching line of hi-hats, before being joined by outrun-like synths. The sound is very metallic and cold, yet it has an inexplicable air of intimacy. This unique blend of industrial music and human vulnerability creates an unusual yet tantalizing brand of darkwave music. The music video reflects a similar quality, as the blurry and grayscale imagery is hard to decipher and mechanical, yet the video focus on a human face and unmistakably human themes of love and heartbreak.
The Idea of Love Track List
01. The Idea of Love
02. Rue the Day
Eisold’s musical endeavors don’t end at Cold Cave, however. He is a member of the acclaimed yet elusive post-hardcore act Give Up the Ghost, who played one of their few and far in between shows at The Echo earlier this year. Wesley’s abrasive voice lends itself perfectly to both the genres of darkwave and post-hardcore. As a genre that utilizes screaming as both a texture and as primary vocals, possessing a raw, primal yet emotional voice is important and Wesley nails it.
