Riot Fest After Show: The Specials, The Far East @ Concord Music Hall 9/15

To get the second night swingin’, Riot Fest has put The Specials at the top of the bill. Some consider them to be among the originators of the ska and punk mashup style of music that was extremely popular in 1970s Britain. Throughout their long musical career, they’ve gone through numerous lineup changes but the sound and style stays consistent even with musical growth.

Built on the foundation of anti-racism and other equality movements, The Specials truly capture the values of Riot Fest and the true punk movement. By using their platform to raise awareness to important issues, The Specials were integral to the ska movement.

The openers, The Far East, are anything but just openers. The tropical reggae sound that spills out when you listen to their SoundCloud is infectious. From the heart of Brooklyn, this band has an edge that a lot of reggae doesn’t feature – a female voice .The voice, otherwise known as Maddie Ruthless, captures the dreamlike quality of a mirage you might see if you were trekking through a deserted island. These two bands are not ones you want to miss, so hit that ticket link down below.
