LISTEN: Prophets of Rage Release New Song “No Sleep Til Cleveland”

Rap-rock supergroup Prophets of Rage has released its second single, “No Sleep Till Cleveland”. The single will feature on the group’s upcoming debut EP, The Party’s Over, along with previously released debut single, “Prophets of Rage”.

Prophets of Rage recorded “No Sleep Till Cleveland” live, and the lack of studio preparation shows both in the single’s sloppy production and its regurgitated bars. The track blatantly samples the Beastie Boys’s “No Sleep Till Brooklyn’s” production and Chuck D’s own “Fight the Power’s” lyrics, essentially combining the two into a bland facsimile of the originals. Tom Morello and his Rage brethren exactly mimic “No Sleep Till Brooklyn’s production, while B-Real does not feature at all. This disjointed, baffling composition bastardizes both tracks it samples, stripping them entirely of their power and cohesiveness.

Prophets of Rage will issue The Party’s Over August 25 through Caroline. The EP includes debut single “Prophets of Rage”, not yet released track “The Party’s Over”, and covers of Public Enemy and Rage Against the Machine tracks.

The group consists of Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord, Cypress Hill’s B-Real, and various members of Rage Against the Machine. They debuted live in Los Angeles in June, and are currently touring in support of their upcoming EP. In July, they performed and led protests outside the Republican National Convention.
