WATCH: Spotify To Release Documentary On Metallica’s Early Years

Metallica has been a band that has made history with more than three decades of music. This history has been recorded through the music, the interviews, and recently, a documentary from Spotify’s newly debuted series called “Landmark”.

“Landmark” is a original video series that covers significant events that took a spot in music history. The series starts with a four-part story presenting the Metallica’s early years as noted by the titles of the episodes. Each episode includes an individual name, for episode one the segment is called  “Metal Militia”; episode two is called “Metal Up Your Ass”, episode three is called “Sophistication And Brutality”, and episode four is called “Armageddon’s Here”.

The story starts with the first meeting of the frontman, James Hetfield,  and the drummer, Lars Ulrich. Next, the story continues with the joining of the guitarist, Kirk Hammett, and the events of covering songs and creating the debut album. Following this, the story dedicates the departed bassist/guitarist, Cliff Burton. The presentation finishes with the topic of the band’s rise to success. In summary, the documentary will cover the period of Metallica’s history from 1981 to 1984.

To tell these stories, the video contains interviews, held with band members and friends made from the musical experiences, rare footage, animations and a playlist.

Within the first minute, members talk about how tough getting into the music business was with the lack of media and the domination and popularity of the music industry.

The first episode and the trailer are posted on Spotify’s YouTube channel, while part two to part four of the documentary is available only on Spotify. Below is the first episode of the documentary.

The band has been hard at work on releasing a new album sometime this year, making a book called  “Metallica: Back To The Front”and creating a remastered deluxe reissue of “Master Of Puppets”. The band has also been busy performing at several events such as the Hollywood Bowl and Global Citizen.
