Influential Massachusetts alternative rock outfit the Pixies are out with the second single off of upcoming record Head Carrier. After 2014’s Indy Cindy, Pixies announced the new record earlier this year in July, along with lead single “Um Chagga Lagga,” and now the band gives its fans a little peek of the record in the form of “Talent.”
“Talent” continues “Um Chagga Lagga”‘s footsteps in creating a fun, accessible indie rock sound that’s short, sweet, and to-the-point. The members of the band show great chemistry in jumping between the sweet power-chord riffs and Black Francis’ matter-of-fact vocals. The song shows a somewhat leisurely attitude, not only instrumentally but also lyrically, shouting out legendary actor Jack Palance.
Head Carrier, produced by Tom Dalgety, will be coming out September 30th on their label Pixiesmusic. Unlike Indy Cindy, the record was conceived as a full album rather than a single idea.
The band spent six weeks writing, arranging and rehearsing the album before entering London’s Rak Studios in February. “This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,” drummer David Lovering said in a statement. “By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make Indy Cindy.”
Pixies have already unveiled a couple songs from the upcoming record – including “Head Carrier,” “Classic Masher” and “Baal’s Back” – at Portugal’s NOS Alive festival.
